GST registration is done online through the GST portal, and typically takes 3–7 working days once all documents are submitted correctly.

Who Needs to Register

Businesses with annual turnover above ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh for services, lower limits in some states) must register for GST. Registration is also mandatory for e-commerce sellers and inter-state suppliers, regardless of turnover.

Documents Required

• PAN card of the business/proprietor
• Aadhaar card
• Proof of business registration (incorporation certificate, partnership deed, etc.)
• Address proof of the place of business
• Bank account details (cancelled cheque or bank statement)
• Digital Signature Certificate (for companies and LLPs)

Step-by-Step Process

1. Visit the GST portal and initiate registration (Form GST REG-01)
2. Submit business and applicant details along with documents
3. Verification via OTP (Aadhaar-based) or physical verification if flagged
4. GST officer review — approval or query within 3–7 working days
5. GSTIN issued and registration certificate available for download

After Registration

Once registered, you're required to file periodic returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) even if there's no business activity in a given period.
